Seafood Fest
Picnic – We hold the 2011
Seafood Fest at Picnic Area #5 at Fort Monroe in Hampton from 4:00 P.M. until
7:30 P.M. in June. The same should hold true in 2012 as we hold the Seafood Fest
at the ‘New” Fort Monroe, one of America’s newest National Landmarks! Check the
weekly “Bulletin” for details as we near the time of this event in June 2012.
Fall Golf
– Our 13th Annual Golf Scholarship Tournament will be held in
September 2012. The “profits” from this
event are used to support the Exchange’s scholarship program. The 13th Scholarship
Golf Tournament will be at the Riverfront Golf Club in Suffolk. Mark your golf
calendar and watch for details in the weekly “Bulletin”.
Fall Fling
Picnic – As history repeats, the fall-fling barbeque and seafood
picnic is held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. in October at the Khedive
Temple, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA. Mark your October 2012 calendar for a fine time! Check the
weekly “Bulletin” for details as we near the time of this event.
Scholarship Competition – In about mid-October of each year, the Exchange scholarship competition for the following school year is announced via notices in the weekly “Bulletin” and faxes to all members. Completed applications are due in the Exchange Norfolk office in early December for the current year’s competition! The Exchange Scholarship Competition Committee completes its work by selecting scholarship winners by early January. The names of the winners are announced at the Annual Meeting held in February. The winners of the Exchange Scholarship Competition for school year 2011-2012 were: Leanna Kay Bigelow, daughter of parents who are D.E. Kirby, Inc. employees; Dustin T. Umberger, son of Cherry Carpet, Inc. employee; and Chad A. Bittle, son of a GTI Systems employee and a part-time employee of W.F. McGann Corporation. Chad’s scholarship is a special one because The George Daniel Racer Scholarship from the employees of Door Engineering Corporation in Norfolk funds it.
