“Quality Service To The Construction Industry Since 1908”

About BCEVA

The Builders & Contractors Exchange was founded in 1908 by a group of far-sighted members of the construction industry to "bring the various branches of the construction industry closer in touch with each other." As the first president, Mr. E. D. Hobbs stated then, the Exchange will "bring about cooperation and a general uplifting of the business." Today, the objective of the Exchange has not changed.

The Exchange furnishes a wide variety of services and benefits to the construction industry. Since 1908 the Builders & Contractors Exchange has served as the nerve center of one of Hampton Roads' largest businesses--the construction industry. The Exchange is a member-owned, not-for-profit clearinghouse for competitive bids for construction projects planned for the Hampton Roads area plus selected other areas in Virginia and North Carolina. These projects include privately financed commercial jobs and government-financed jobs from all levels of municipal, county, regional, state, and federal governments.

The Exchange serves any person, firm, or association in any branch of the construction industry, which employs labor in actual construction work, furnishes supplies and material, or performs other work or business related to the construction industry. Membership includes, among others, general contractors, specialty subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers’ representatives, material distributors, architects, engineers, banks, insurance agencies, bonding companies, law firms, computer-related businesses, and accounting firms.

The Exchange gathers, manages, and distributes information essential to those in the commercial arm of the construction industry. Information is gathered from plan issuing offices of owners, architects, engineers, and government entities. The information is stored and managed by the Exchange's computer-based information management system.
This information is then distributed to members of the Exchange via:

1) Visiting by members to the plans rooms of the Exchange;
2) accessing the 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week FAXNOW! system;
3) receiving weekly via mail the Construction News Bulletin;
4) receiving annually via mail the Membership Directory and Buyer’s guide; and NOW;
5) visiting the Exchange's Electronic Plans Room!
